New domain

Finally, after a long, long wait, the domain - www.minusfive.com - is mine! (and yours to enjoy of course!). I’m sorry if you were getting used to the whole minusfive-design.com thing, but I’ve always loved short and simple domain names. Unfortunately, when I started using the nickname (minusfive), I still didn’t know much about how the whole ‘internet thing’ worked; I just knew how to get ‘online’ on Microsoft’s(tm) Chat, mIRC, or whatever other chat room I’d find. A couple of years later, when I started to play around with HTML, I was still a high school student in Colombia, and the domain and hosting prices (in US dollars vs. Colombian pesos), seemed absurd to me at the time. Later on, when I was ready to get my own domain and start publishing, the name was gone; someone had already purchased it. For some reason whoever purchased ‘minusfive.com’ never used it! That was about 7 years ago, and I’ve been following it ever since, and it was never used! It was just a blank page sitting there, with no purpose, no meaning, nothing.

On the 21st of November my girlfriend came to visit from Florida. We’ve been forcefully separated because of the stupid immigration policies of the US, and since we now have more than a thousand miles between us, her visits are not an every-day event as you can imagine. So I promised I wouldn’t touch my computer (or ‘her rival’ as she calls it), for the length of her stay. I can’t say I was completely faithful to my promise, but I did reduce my computer time considerably since she was here. Then, after she left on Monday the 27th of November, I started my ‘online routine’ as usual: check e-mails, maintain site, research for new articles, look for pictures to add to my gallery, etc. Then I looked to see if the domain was finally available, and to my surprise, it was! Immediately I purchased it, added it to my hosting plan and started reading about moving my Wordpress setup to my new domain. This latter task proved itself more tricky than I expected, but finally I’m through with it! Latest problem I had was that every time you went to my site at ‘minusfive.com’ or clicked any link to any of the posts or pages, a blank page would load and then you would have to re-load the site in order to see it. Fortunately, I found a forum about it [Link], and found it to be a problem with the cache plug-in and the PHP version on my server, and after a couple of tricks I was able to fix it.
So here we are. New, simpler domain. I like it, and I hope and believe you will too. I’m still in the process of moving everything to this new domain, so I would really appreciate it if you could report any bugs you find; just drop a comment below.
